So I guess I'll get to the post of why my blog is called Dumpster Diving River Rats. Its simple I love finding treasurers from the Goodwill, second hand store, garage/yard/rummage sale, vintage shop and you guessed it even climbing in dumpsters. Now I don't go climbing into dumpsters just to see whats in there because lets face it, it can be downright gross and hazardous. Usually its something that I see sticking out of a dumpster that catches my eye or its always fun to climb a large one and take a peak. (Always remember to stay safe if you do this and in some-places this is illegal) Its really amazing what you can learn about other people from the trash and things they throw away, but that is a topic for another day. Now the river part. I love going swimming at the river in the summer time when its hot out. A lot of my family do as well, hence my mother calling us Dumpster Diving River Rats. I know it sounds extremely hardcore red neck or white trash. I really don't see myself as those things but to each his own.
I love the Goodwill. I like the idea of reusing things, we are such a throw away society. I also love getting brand name items and some high end items at a very reduced cost. I hate paying full price if I know I can get it cheaper. I love that Goodwill has a office where you can go and they will help you get a job. I love how Goodwill highers people who really do want to work for a living but might not be hired at other places. I LOVE being able to pull up to one of their stores and hand them over bang after bag, item after item and they don't charge me one red cent to take all my junk away. What I love the most is the Goodwill outlets. Goodwill outlets are the best because you can get clothing by the pound. Its the best and the funnest way to shop at the Goodwill. I go in with $25.00 and before tax I can get about twenty eight pounds of clothing. At my local outlet I pay only $0.89 a pound if I have over twenty five pounds. Now I know some people don't like how much money the CEO of Goodwill makes each year. It doesn't bother me at all. He gets paid way less than any other CEO out there working for a non 501.c3 company. He also has over 163 Goodwill's to take care of. Not to mention they help over a million people with employment training and job placement Also did I mention that they take your stuff away for free and they give you a recite so you can deduct it from your taxes. Plus if this really bothers you don't shop there. It will just give everyone who does more selection when they go shopping......
Also had to mention that you can shop Goodwill at home now. They have a online website where you can buy things and they will send it to you. You can also buy from them through ebay. I have noticed that some Goodwill's will sell high end items or rare items this way.
