Marijuana Madness

This is info I wish I could have found on the internet !

Have you read or heard about the benefits of Medical Marijuana?

Is all Marijuana bad?

Has you doctor said Marijuana might help you?

Do you have absolutely no idea about how to go about using or getting Marijuana?

Is all you know about Marijuana is that its a plant and a drug?

If you have answered yes to any of these questions than I hope I can help answer them. So I have chronic illnesses. I went to one of my specialists and he said that some of his patients had seen good results with the use of Medical Marijuana. He then told me he couldn't prescribe it. The state that I live in allows sick people to obtain a medical marijuana prescription. I also live in a state that allows marijuana for recreational use. I am a newbie and by newbie I mean I have never used marijuana. I of course have heard about it, especially in high school in and out of health class, i had friends in high school that used but never pressured me to use it once they knew I wasn't interested. When I graduated high school I knew that Marijuana was a plant and that people smoked it to get high. So flash forward 15 years and that is still what I know.

I went online to research and educate myself about Medical Marijuana. Shockingly I couldn't find very much information that I could understand. Yes I can read and comprehend and I graduated with very decent grades. What the problem was every website I encountered was using words and slang I had never heard before.  Every website I went to expected you to already know what they were talking about. I know that if I watched the news or read it I probably would know more. The thing is I don't watch or read the news much because news stations only report bad news, I am busy, and would rather be asleep when the 11 o'clock news comes on. I read the highlights and if I am interested I read the story. If you think that's wrong well we all have our own opinions.

So after educating myself I thought it might help some if I wrote a blog about it. (disclaimer I don't know everything about this subject but would have loved to find a website that would take you from zero knowledge to being able to understanding this subject.)

So I've decided to write a series of blog posts on this topic. Today I'd like to start with the first steps you need to take to getting a medical marijuana prescription.

The first step talk to your medical doctor and or specialist if you have a specific issues and ask them if they know if taking marijuana in any form has helped some of their other patients or if it is helpful to your specific issues. Also ask them if they have any reasons they think it might make your symptoms worse. Keep in mind that some medical doctors have done there homework and are very knowledgeable and some doctors are very judgmental and don't know anything about it and will tell you their own personal feelings. Example : My specialist told me that many of his patients have found relief by using medical marijuana but that he wasn't licensed to write me a prescription. He also told me that smoking marijuana could make my symptoms worse.

The next step is to do your research. Here is a list of very simple terms that when you first read them might be confusing.

Marijuana : the common or general term for the dried leaves and female flowers of the cannabis plant that possess medical and psychoactive compounds

CBD:  CBD stands for Cannabidiol. Cannabidiol is found in Marijuana. In recent times research has found that Cannabidiol treats anxiety, pain, and inflammation among other things depending on the strain with out the user getting any of the psychoactive effects or "high".

THC: THC stands for tetrahydrocannabinol. It is a physiological active compound in the marijuana. It is helpful with certain health problems depending on the strain of marijuana. It is also sought after when using Marijuana for recreational purposes due to the feeling users get.

Hemp : Hemp is the male part of the cannabis plant.

Pot: Slang for Marijuana

Weed: Slang for Marijuana

Two websites that are very helpful with more in-depth terms and slang are:

Next blog we will talk about how to get your prescription in each state that its legal to do so.
